The Ethical Planet started as a collection of books that addresses the theme of ethics and human values, written and illustrated by children and teens, from 3 to 18 years old. In June / 2019, the project was no longer just “words”, it became “action”, with the creation of a non-profit organization in the state of Florida, USA.

The idea for the book came up in a holiday workshop that the children did at their grandmother’s house, the Brazilian educator Nívea Maria Fraga Rocha. From playful activities, where they played to learn, the theme of ethics and human values ​​was presented, explaining them the theory, presenting and defining different values. After understanding the importance of developing these values ​​and sharing them with colleagues, family and friends, the first book came to fruition, as the children wanted.

In an atmosphere of learning and playing, each child chose two themes that they would like to develop. With an appropriate methodology to each age group, they researched the definitions of each theme, and translated the concept, explaining it in their own words. Then, they brought these concepts into their own lives, looking for examples where they recognized the application of values ​​or when their absence caused unwanted situations. All volumes were developed using the same methodology.

In the first volume, the authors were aged between 3 and 13 years old and the topics covered were love, joy, solidarity, friendship, tolerance, compassion, respect, responsibility, cooperation, perseverance, honesty, ethics and kindness. The book was released in July / 2012 in Salvador / BA.

In the second volume, the authors were between 5 and 14 years old and chose to approach hope, obedience, optimism, diversity, creativity, initiative, kindness, discipline, objectivity, understanding, sustainability and citizenship. Its launch was also in Salvador / BA, in March / 2014.

The third volume, the first bilingual Portuguese-English, was released in Salvador-Brazil in April / 2016, in Virginia-USA, in June/ 2017 and in Boca Raton-USA in August/ 2019. Authors aged 7 to 17 present the themes simplicity, sincerity, determination, organization, courage, forgiveness, generosity, justice, trust, overcoming, truth, freedom, humility and fidelity.

The Ethical Planet 4 was launched at “Focus Brasil Nova York” in New York, Washington, DC, and Maryland/ USA, in September/ 2019. Authors aged 3 to 18 years approach new topics and bring other novelties in the book.

We are scheduling the launch of volume 4 in Florida-USA, Salvador-Brazil and São Paulo-Brazil for the first semester of 2020.

The books are available on Amazon.com and are sold in more than 13 countries. Some volumes are already in Portuguese and English versions and soon we will have the 4 volumes also in Spanish.

All authors of the first 3 volumes are Brazilian, and in volume 4, we have two American children as guest authors.  The youngest, Daniel, now aged 4, debuts as an author at The Ethical Planet 4. The oldest of the authors, Leonardo, now 20, was the author of the first volumes and debuts as an editor in book 4.

In 2019, the city of Governador Mangabeira-BA-Brazil, adopted The Ethical Planet books as didactic material for all public schools (urban and rural) in the municipality. Other city halls and private schools in Brazil and in the U.S. have shown interest in also adopting the books. And people and institutions in the United States, Portugal, England and Brazil are in contact to start their own “Club” of The Ethical Planet in their cities or organizations.
